What we want our guests to know
First of all let me say that, with very few exceptions, man made snow is not
made in a big refrigerator, it is atomized or very tiny
drops of water blown into the air to freeze.
Making snow is accomplished by
having the following ingredients:
A 28 degree wet
bulb temperature (wet bulb temp is a combination of the
temperature and the humidity). Chances are if it is 28 degrees
at your house, Yawgoo Valley is making snow.
The colder the temperature, the more snow we can make. For
example, at 28 degrees, a snow gun converts about 30 gallons of
water per minute into snow. However, at 10 degrees that same gun
coverts up to 150 gallons per minute or five times the volume of
water into snow.
Machine made snow is actually a
frozen ice pellet atomized by a pocket of air. Because of this,
it is five times denser than natural snow. To put it another
way, a foot of machine made snow is equivalent to five feet of
natural snow. This makes it much more resistant to warm air and
rain. Also, the surface allows for faster conditions than
natural snow.
Consequently, after a warm or rainy
day, you will find Yawgoo’s slopes still snow covered even
though there is none in your backyard.
